BrightStar Learning Centers provide a safe, enriching place for your child before and after school. We offer a structured program with a balance of organized group activities, individual study time, and opportunities for kids to be kids. We plan and implement diverse activities that will stimulate the growth of your child's self-esteem, along with the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development that will lead to success in their future schooling and life.

Our school-age program focuses on developing characteristics that will foster a positive introduction into the adult world: cooperation and respect for others, increasing responsibility, accountability, and problem-solving skills. To provide the best possible care for your child, we feel it is essentialfor us to work as a team. With mutual respect and clear communication, your child's time at BLC can be a happy and rewarding experience.

Attendance

Please adhere to the arrival and departure times you specified when you enrolled. If you need to make any changes, please notify the office. It is essential to call the office if your child is notattending for the day, as this helps avoid delays at schools during pick-up time. A BLC staff member will sign your child in when they arrive from their elementary school. Please remember to sign your child out daily with a time and legible signature, as this is a legal document. On days when your child does not attend elementary school, you will need to sign them in and out. A fee will be charged to your account if your child is not signed in or out, or if you are missing the time or signature.

Children attending Circle View will be picked up by BLC staff members and walked to BLC or driven back on the BLC van. Children attending College View and Schroeder will be picked up by the BLC van. On Wednesdays, they will eat lunch at BLC (O.V.S.D. only). Please note that they must bring their own lunch from home; however, DoorDash, Postmates, etc. are not permitted.

Homework

We have dedicated homework time Monday through Thursday. During this time, they work on homework received from school. If your child does not have homework, you may send a workbook for them to work on instead. We also have a "homework center" filled with enrichment activities to reinforce the skills they are learning at BLC as well as at school. Children who do not have homework may be assigned an activity from the homework center to work on during the designated homework time.

Quiet reading can also be done for their reading logs during homework time. Although we do not provide one-on-one tutoring, BLC staff members are available to give some homework assistance. Please let us know if you or your child's teacher feels that there are any specific areas that we can reinforce during this time. We will do our best to assist them; however, parents are responsible for checking their child's homework nightly to make sure everything is complete.

Communication

In addition to classroom notes and individual notes at home, we want you to feel that you can talk to a teacher or director at any time you have a concern, question, comment, compliment, or praise. We will also arrange for a parent-teacher conference if you would like some individualized attention. For those of you with extremely busy schedules, we can also arrange telephone contact if you let the teacher know in advance.

Our Classroom Community

The teachers and students treat the Teal Tigers and Pink Panthers (our school-age classrooms) as if they were their own community. Everyone takes an active role in caring for the school, and they work together to complete their tasks with pride. Throughout the day, there are opportunities for quiet reading, individual exploration, and small-group play. Organized group activities allow for positive interactions with others and help teach good sportsmanship and cooperation. Strengthening the classroom community and working together to accomplish goals helps build self-esteem and self-worth. We encourage children to take responsibility for their actions and teach that one person can make a difference for the entire group.
